REVEALED: Major Shakeup Looming as Ruto is Set to Reduce Cabinet to 15 CSs (List)
President William Ruto held a crucial Cabinet meeting at State House on Thursday, which could mark the end for seven ministries as a significant government shakeup looms.
According to sources privy to the happenings, these changes aim to streamline the government and reduce the burgeoning wage bill.
The anticipated reorganization will see the current 22 ministries reduced to 15, with several departments being merged and various state corporations disbanded.
Before the meeting, President Ruto had a 40-minute discussion with his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, before addressing the anxious Cabinet secretaries, some of whom are facing job cuts.
The new Cabinet structure will include:
1 Ministry of Defence
2 Ministry of Interior
3 Ministry of Energy
4 Ministry of Health
5 Ministry of Education
6 National Treasury
7 Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation
8 Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Community (EAC)
9 Ministry of Labour and Public Service
10 Ministry of Affirmative Action, Youth, and Gender
11 Ministry of Water, Forest, and Environment
12 Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports
13 Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands, Housing, Public Works, and Roads
14 Ministry of Economic Planning, Manufacturing, Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives (MITI)
15 Delivery Unit, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and the Attorney General
In addition to the Cabinet shakeup, 15 principal secretaries will also lose their jobs. This move is part of the austerity measures President Ruto announced to control the rising wage bill, which has been consuming a significant portion of the country's revenue.
The reorganization aims to create a more efficient government structure and reduce costs. However, it has also caused anxiety among the affected secretaries and principal secretaries as the government prepares to implement these changes.
