Oyewumi Admits Buying Votes During Last General Elections

Afederal lawmaker from Osun State, Olalere Oyewumi, who is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, has admitted that he bought votes during the 2023 general elections.

Vote buying and selling was rampant during the last elections, which affected the credibility of the polls conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had also deployed its officials in some polling units.

Muric Warns Soun

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has warned that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, not to set Ogbomoso on fire.

This was sequel to the query issued by the king to the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Dr. Taliat Yunus Olusina Ayilara, for failing to notify him before embarking on his recent Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The Executive Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, in a statement, lamented that Oba Olaoye is provoking the Muslims by his actions.


Two Rescued As Building Under Construction Collapses In Abuja

Two persons have been rescued from a collapsed building at Close 10, Drive 5, Second Gate at the Prince and Princess Estate at the Gudu District in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, on Saturday.

She noted that Acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, confirmed that all the workers evacuated the building as soon as they saw signs that the building was going to collapse.


Economic Turbulence Not Peculiar To Nigeria But A Global Issue- Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima says that though Nigeria’s economy is facing challenges, the turbulence is a global issue and not peculiar to the country. 

He spoke during the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) in Abuja.

Nigeria’s inflation rate reached 33.69 per cent, according to a May 2024 data by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). But Shettima says the country’s situation is not an isolated case.
