During a sermon titled "Understanding How God Leads" at the July 2024 Week of Spiritual Emphasis, Bishop David Oyedepo, General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, emphasized the dangers of self-guidance, asserting, "I'm not sure anyone has ever survived it."

Bishop Oyedepo urged believers to trust solely in divine guidance, likening the redeemed to spiritual eagles who must rely on the Lord's direction. "He said, 'He led them about' – allow Him to lead you about. Don’t lead yourself," he advised.

Highlighting the forward-moving nature of God's guidance, he stated, "God only leads forward, never backward or sidewards. So if it’s not a forward movement, it’s not God."

In his sermon, Bishop Oyedepo underscored that God's leading is essential for achieving prominence in life's endeavors.

Quoting Isaiah 45:1-3, he explained how divine direction removes obstacles and opens doors. "When God leads, everlasting gates are lifted. When God leads, the gate cannot be shut against you," he said.

Bishop Oyedepo cautioned against the perils of self-reliance, describing it as an "uphill task" that could be devastating. "Don’t attempt to lead yourself. It’s an uphill task and can be most devastating. I’m not sure anyone has ever survived it," he warned.

Illustrating his point, Bishop Oyedepo recounted the story of Abraham, who achieved transgenerational greatness by following God's guidance. "He never lost relevance by following His leadings only. He never knew a backward trend by following His leadings only," he noted.
