The Israeli Air Force (IAF) launched a series of targeted strikes on Shejaiya and Rafah, resulting in the elimination of dozens of Hamas operatives according to Al Jazeera English.

The operations were part of a broader military effort to weaken Hamas' infrastructure and capabilities in Gaza, particularly focusing on areas known for high militant activity.

The strikes in Shejaiya, a densely populated neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, and Rafah, a border city in the southern Gaza Strip, were coordinated to disrupt planned attacks and dismantle strategic positions held by Hamas. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the targets included key command centers, weapons storage facilities, and tunnel networks used for transporting arms and personnel.

Brigadier General Avi Meytal, a spokesperson for the IDF, stated that the airstrikes were precise and intended to minimize collateral damage while neutralizing immediate threats posed by Hamas fighters. "Our operations are focused on degrading the operational capabilities of Hamas and ensuring the safety of our citizens. We have taken extensive measures to avoid civilian casualties," Meytal emphasized.

Local sources in Gaza reported significant explosions and rising plumes of smoke from the targeted areas. The strikes have intensified concerns over the humanitarian impact on residents, as many civilians are caught in the crossfire. Emergency services in Gaza have been overwhelmed with casualties, and there are reports of residential damage, adding to the growing toll on the civilian population.
