According to a report by , the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, has claimed responsibility for killing Israeli troops in a rocket assault on the Shujayea neighborhood in eastern Gaza City.
According to a statement released by the group on Telegram, its fighters targeted a house where Israeli soldiers were holed up using a "TBG thermobaric rocket", resulting in casualties among the troops. The statement also mentioned that the fighters "managed to snipe" an Israeli soldier inside a separate home in the same neighborhood.
The Israeli military, on the other hand, reported "short-range encounters" with Palestinian fighters in Shujayea, alleging that the air force "eliminated dozens of terrorists" and destroyed weapons sites in airstrikes.
The Qassam Brigades' attack comes amid an ongoing Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip that has been raging for over eight months. The conflict has taken a heavy toll on the Palestinian population, with nearly 37,300 killed and over 85,000 injured, according to local health authorities.
Israel's actions in Gaza have drawn widespread international condemnation, with the country facing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. The court has ordered Israel to immediately halt its operation in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before the area was invaded on May 6.
