According to Channels Television, Salihu Lukman, the immediate past National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for collaboration among key political figures ahead of the 2027 general election. He urged figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi to unite efforts to challenge the ruling APC. Lukman's statement, released in Abuja on Sunday, outlined a proposed alliance that also involves former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Kayode Fayemi, and Ibikunle Amosun, among others.

In his discussion titled "Future of Democracy in Nigeria," Lukman stressed the importance of Nigerian political leaders showing selflessness to unite and enhance the country's democracy. He expressed disappointment with the current situation, condemning the APC for promising to combat corruption but allegedly promoting more corruption and 'state capture' in governance at different levels.

Lukman emphasized the crucial roles played by former President Buhari and President Asiwaju Tinubu in influencing recent political results. He indicated that without Buhari's impact, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) would have faced much greater difficulty in their defeat in 2015. Additionally, Lukman suggested that Tinubu's path to the presidency might not have been as likely without Buhari's initial electoral victory.

He said: Without former President Buhari, the defeat of PDP in 2015 would have been almost impossible, and by extension, arguably, would have been difficult, if not impossible for President Asiwaju Tinubu to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
