According to Punch Newspaper, Chief Edwin Clark, a revered elder statesman and National Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, has emphasized the immediate necessity for Nigeria to reconsider the current demands for restructuring. This appeal comes at a time of heightened tensions in Rivers State and the persistent friction between Governor Sim Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Chief Clark's remarks are viewed as a substantial addition to the ongoing national conversation regarding Nigeria's political and administrative direction.

The North's position on restructuring has sparked debate and speculation. Despite reports indicating otherwise, Chief Clark clarified that the North is not in agreement on this matter. He pointed out an incident involving Jerry Gana, who co-chaired a committee with Ibrahim Coomassie, a former Inspector General of Police. The North's concern about Gana collaborating with minority groups caused some disagreement, but this does not mean there is unanimous opposition to restructuring.

As politics change over time, there's a renewed call for restructuring with increased enthusiasm. Chief Clark noted that initial doubts have been replaced by widespread endorsement for a more fair and balanced administrative setup in Nigeria. This renewed interest stems from a growing acknowledgment of the advantages that a restructured nation could offer, such as improved governance, enhanced resource management, and greater political stability across all regions.

The current conflicts in Rivers State, notably the disagreement between Governor Sim Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike, illustrate the intricate political landscape of Nigeria. These internal issues emphasize the need for systematic changes that can tackle the underlying reasons for regional disagreements and encourage a more unified national structure. Chief Clark's support for restructuring is viewed as an essential move to reduce these tensions and enhance national unity.

He said: No, that is not true. Let me quickly say this. The North was not divided. There was only one thing; they told us that Jerry Gana, who was the co-chairman, with Ibrahim Coomassie, former Inspector General of Police, had broken up. They suspected Gana of working with us, the minorities. When we came out, it appeared people were already leaving. But with the way things have turned out, people are now clamouring again for a restructured country.
