The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu's administration to launch a comprehensive investigation into the financial accounts of all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The aim of the probe is to uncover instances where public funds were utilized to cover the tuition fees of children belonging to public officers.

In a statement released on Friday, SERAP emphasized the necessity for transparency in governance, urging both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices & Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to spearhead the investigation.

According to Sahara Reporters, the organization urged the agencies to meticulously examine the financial records of Nigeria's states and the FCT to ascertain any misappropriation of funds.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, SERAP emphasized the need for the Nigerian government to disclose the findings of the investigation to the public.

Furthermore, the organization advocated for the reimbursement of any misused funds by the implicated schools, with accrued interest.

The call for scrutiny arises amidst a backdrop of controversy surrounding the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The EFCC is currently investigating Bello for allegedly disbursing a total of $845.852.84 over time to the American International School, Abuja, for the educational expenses of his children.
