Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, is a member of the opposition party, the PDP. He stated that, in his opinion, the PDP did not have a role in choosing the leadership of the Senate. Instead, the responsibility for selecting the leadership belonged to the ruling party, the APC.

Maidoki mentioned that during the election process for the leadership of the Senate, there were multiple interests and preferences from various parties and factions, including the Presidency. He noted that the members of the National Assembly, including those from the opposition party like himself, desired different leaders from those favored by the Presidency.

However, Maidoki acknowledged that the ruling party's preferences ultimately prevailed in the election. Consequently, he and other members of the National Assembly, including those from the PDP, were left with no choice but to support the chosen leaders, despite their initial preferences.

In an interview with The Sun, Maidoki said, "I am a member of the opposition party, the PDP." As a result, we are not meant to produce the leadership of the National Assembly. It was the duty of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). During the process of electing the leadership of the Senate, there were several interests from all quarters, including the Presidency.

"We, the members of the National Assembly, wanted leaders different from what the Presidency wanted. But at the end, the thing went their way, and we had no choice but to support whoever emerged."
