(Courtesy)A senior Hezbollah commander, Muhammad Nimah Nasser, was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. This marks one of the highest-ranking officials in the terror group to be killed in the ongoing conflict along the border over the past nine months. In retaliation, Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets into northern Israel on Wednesday afternoon.

Nasser, also known as Abu Nimah, hailed from Haddatha in southern Lebanon. He was killed in the coastal city of Tyre, according to Hezbollah's confirmation following reports of the strike. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that an "enemy drone targeted a car" in Tyre, which is roughly 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the border. AFP sources added that another Hezbollah fighter and a civilian also died in the attack.

Hezbollah's statement referred to Nasser as a commander, a title they rarely use for senior operatives killed by Israel. Previously, only Taleb Abdullah, commander of the Nasr regional division, killed last month, and Wissam al-Tawil, deputy head of the elite Radwan unit, killed in January, were given such a designation.

The IDF confirmed Nasser's death hours after the strike, noting that he had commanded Hezbollah’s Aziz unit since 2016. This unit, one of three regional divisions in southern Lebanon, is responsible for the southwestern region from the coast to the Bint Jbeil area. It has conducted hundreds of attacks against northern Israel’s upper and western Galilee regions during the conflict.
