"It Will be the Saddest Day for Kenyans" Expert Warns on Raila Accepting Offer for African Union Job

Political analyst Josphat Kamanya has foretold dire consequences for both the opposition and the nation as a whole in the event that leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Raila Odinga accepts the invitation to run for head of the African Union (AU) Commission. High-ranking sources claim that President William Ruto is supporting Raila in the race for the position and promising the government's backing should he accept.

In an interview with TV 47 on Saturday evening, Kamanya contended that although Raila's appointment would represent a significant turning point in his career and a victory for Kenya internationally, it will also weaken the opposition, enabling the government to carry out its desired agenda.

"Raila is the official leader of the opposition and also the leader of the oldest, strongest, and largest political party ODM and which is the biggest party in the Azimio fraternity." "If the attempts by Kenya Kwanza to have Raila take up the AU job go through, it will be good for Kenya Kwanza, but that will be the saddest day for Kenyans because the opposition will fully be compromised."

"If he leaves, who will be the government's opposition watchdog? When the ODM party decides to support a presidential candidate in 2027, what would happen and who would that be? But rather than accepting the AU position, I believe Raila should concentrate on revitalizing his party and training up-and-coming MPs."
