50 Reps Demand Nnamdi Kanu's Release

About 50 members of the House of Representatives spread across the six geo-political zones of the country under the aegis of the Concerned Federal Lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South-East, have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to invoke Section 174 of the Constitution of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and Section 107(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, from the custody of the Department of State Services.

The lawmakers elected on the platform of different political parties in a letter addressed to Tinubu, dated June 19, 2024, urged him to commence a peace move to address the insecurity challenges in the South-East.

Some of the signatories of the three-page letter include Obi Aguocha (Abia), Ikenga Ugochinyere (Imo), Afam Ogene (Anambra), Muhammed Jajere (Yobe), Aliyu Mustapha (Kaduna), Midala Balami (Borno), and Abiante Awaji-Inombek (Rivers).

Oyo Health Workers Begin Seven-day Strike Monday

Oyo State Chapter of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, on Sunday, directed all its members to commence a seven-day warning strike on Monday, June 24, 2024 to press further the demands of the union.

This was disclosed in a notification letter sent to the members across all health institutions; including ministries, departments and local government areas by the union President, John Fabunmi, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday.

He said the strike action was imperative to press further the demands of the union, revealing that the union has reminded the State Government of its grievances but nothing was done to assuage the situation.


Presidential Fleet Maintenance Costs Hit Over N14bn In 11 Months Under Tinubu, Reveals State House Report

The Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, allocated a total of N14.77 billion for the repair and maintenance of Nigeria's presidential air fleet over an 11-month period, according to a State House report.

The payments, executed in 11 separate tranches spanning from July 16, 2023, to May 25, 2024, were processed through the 'Presidential Air Fleet Transit Funds' account at the State House headquarters, a report by Sunday PUNCH said.

The allocation coincides with ongoing deliberations in the National Assembly regarding the acquisition of two new aircraft. This move comes after concerns were raised about the functionality of the President's 19-year-old Boeing 737 and other aircraft in the fleet, which have experienced operational challenges.


Obi Dissociates Self From Criitics Of Spending On National Anthem

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has dissociated himself from a news item circulating on social media alleging that he was among “detractors” criticizing the Federal Government’s alleged spending on the national anthem.

Obi’s views were contained in a statement issued by his Media Office, in Abuja yesterday.

According to the statement which was signed by his Spokesman, Dr. Yunusa.
