Following the Federal Executive Council, FEC’s, approval, President Bola Tinubu last week Tuesday launched the Consumer Credit Scheme in Abuja. It will be run by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP.

According to a statement from the presidential media office, the scheme, which will be implemented in stages, will start with public sector workers or civil servants and later extend to the general public. It is much easier to force compliance with those on government payroll. We hope the Federal Government will quickly extend the scheme to other salary earners in the private sector as well as self-employed Nigerians.

The scheme will enable qualified Nigerians to have access to credit to enable them afford houses, cars, financing for their businesses and other socio-economic activities that make life more abundant as obtains in advanced societies. It will allow Nigerians to live a good life while repaying for their credits gradually over the years.

The Ondo Primary Election Appeal Committee, on Monday, said it found no substance in the various petitions challenging the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the April 20 governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State.

The Chairman of the Committee and former Bauchi Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, stated this while submitting the report of the committee to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja.

Addressing the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, Abubakar confirmed that the appeal committee received six petitions from aggrieved aspirants in the wake of the result declaration.

He, however, emphasised that many of the petitions were not backed up by documentary or electronic evidence to buttress the allegations of irregularities and manipulated results as claimed.

“We asked them for documentary or electronic evidence in line with the dictates of the times and the best we were able to receive was a compendium of how some alleged members of the party were sponsored by one of the aspirants.

“We gave them time but at the end of the day, we retired to consider the evidence or lack thereof and submit the reports to the National Working Committee of the parts.

“In a nutshell, this is what we have done here this afternoon. We want to thank the chairman and by extension, the NWC for finding us worthy to do this very sensitive and onerous responsibility,” he stated.
