According to The Sun, A stakeholders meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom ended in chaos on Saturday, leaving at least 32 people injured and many others fleeing for their lives [6].

The meeting, called to choose a consensus chairmanship candidate for the October council elections, was disrupted by angry youths who stormed the venue and attacked the leaders [6]. The youths, allegedly brought to the meeting by a former lawmaker, Hon Kufre Edidem, were opposed to the consensus deal and challenged the elders, throwing bottles and causing chaos [6].

The council chairman, Hon Etetim Onuk, was physically assaulted, and other dignitaries, including a former commissioner, Dr. Bassey Okon, had to run for their lives [6]. The meeting was subsequently declared closed, but not before a former House Member, Idongesit Ituen, addressed the crowd, arguing that the governor, Pastor Umo Eno, should be the one to pick a chairman [6].
