According to Daily Trust, Former Governor of Edo State and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has advocated for stringent measures against economic saboteurs allegedly impeding the progress of the Dangote Refinery. Speaking at the inaugural Prof Emeka Umerah's public lecture in Abuja themed 'Nigeria Yesterday, Today and a Prosperous Future', Oshiomhole proposed the implementation of capital punishment for individuals hindering the refinery's operations, which he claims contributes to worsening economic conditions for Nigerians.

Oshiomhole's call comes amidst reported challenges faced by the Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest oil facility, in sourcing local crude oil within Nigeria. According to him, the refinery, owned by Africa's wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, has encountered significant obstacles due to preferential treatment given to European exports over local industries. He asserted that those responsible for such practices should face severe consequences, stressing that failure to act decisively could jeopardize the nation's economic future.

Additionally, Oshiomhole highlighted ongoing efforts in the Senate to reassess contentious aspects of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), aimed at addressing regulatory concerns within Nigeria's oil and gas sector. This legislative review seeks to streamline operations and ensure equitable distribution of resources, crucial for sustaining economic growth and fostering a prosperous national outlook.

The former governor emphasized the necessity for presidential intervention to enforce these proposed measures effectively. He underscored the importance of leadership committed to transformative change, asserting that tackling economic sabotage demands resolute action to safeguard Nigeria's economic interests and promote sustainable development.

He said: They prefer to import it to Europe and leave Dangote to import its crude from America into Nigeria. Those guys deserve to be hanged. If we don’t hang them, they will hang all of us. What it takes to hang them will require a president with extraordinary change.
