Ayo Olorunfemi, Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to recent comments made by Doyin Okupe, former Director General of the Peter Obi 2023 Presidential Campaign Organisation. Okupe had stated that President Bola Tinubu was more competent than his rival presidential candidates, including Peter Obi.
In an interview with Channels TV, Olorunfemi accused Okupe of being a pretender who deceived the party and left after causing damage.
He reaffirmed the Labour Party's belief in Peter Obi's leadership qualities and expressed confidence that Obi would become Nigeria's president by 2027.
Olorunfemi said, "Doyin Okupe was never a social Democrat, and he made it very clear when he was leaving. He pretended, joined us, and deceived us; and when he had finished all the damage, he left. Everybody knows that Peter Obi is still the best president that we are yet to have, and by the grace of God, by year 2027, we are going to have him. All things being equal, and with God on our side."
The statement highlights the Labour Party's commitment to Peter Obi as their presidential candidate and their optimism about his future prospects in Nigerian politics.
The party remains hopeful that Obi will have another opportunity to run for and win the presidency in the next election cycle.
