According to reports from Vanguard, the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State is already mired in controversy, as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate of forging his voter's card.

In a letter dated July 3rd, the Acting State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest and prosecute the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for allegedly presenting forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public.

Tenebe stated that he is petitioning in his capacity as a voter and law-abiding citizen, whose "interest would be affected if a non-qualified person is allowed to participate/elected."

He alleged that Ighodalo presented a voter's card with the registration number 90FS B195 4629 6818 630, claiming it was issued to him by INEC after he transferred his registration from Lagos to Esan South-East Local Government Area in Edo State.

However, Tenebe claimed that a certified true copy of the INEC voter register revealed that Ighodalo is not a registered voter in the unit and ward he claimed.

He further alleged that the voter's card being paraded by Ighodalo is forged and wants the authorities to investigate and possibly arrest the PDP candidate.
