On Saturday, mourners cried and comforted each other in the Okwuta Ibeku community in Abia State. They gathered to bury 20-year-old Cadet Airforce Officer Emmanuel Onyeomereneche, who drowned in a hotel swimming pool as reported by Punch Newspaper

Onyeomereneche was close to graduating from the National Defence Academy. He went to the hotel with friends and decided to swim in the pool. On April 9, 2024, he drowned at 6:37 pm, and his body was found nearly three hours later at 9:58 pm. The rescue effort was delayed and difficult.

The police confirmed the incident, and an investigation is ongoing. The Nigerian Army and Navy are also aware of what happened. Mourners are calling for a thorough investigation and justice for Onyeomereneche's death.

Many people in the community are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Friends and family described Onyeomereneche as a promising young man with a bright future. His death has left a huge void in their lives.
