The Kogi State House of Assembly has decided to extend the terms of the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen by an additional six months.

This decision was made during a plenary session held on Friday.

According to a report by Channels Television, the extension follows a request from the state Governor, Usman Ododo, who wrote to the House explaining the need for the extension.

In his letter, Governor Ododo highlighted that the state is facing financial difficulties, including a lack of funds and high wage bills, which are preventing the conduct of local government elections.

During the session, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf, presented the letter to the Assembly members.

He emphasized the importance of the transition committee chairmen representing their local governments well.

He also noted that the next six months would be significant at the local government level, with the chairmen expected to regularly submit reports to the Assembly.

The Speaker reminded the chairmen to be mindful of their responsibilities and to serve as good representatives of their communities throughout this extended period.
