Rivers Crisis Thickens As Suspension Of Pro-Fubara Rep Splits Rivers PDP Ward

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ngor Ward 1, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State finds itself embroiled in internal turmoil following conflicting announcements regarding the purported suspension of Awaji-Inombek Abiante, the member representing Andoni/Opobo federal constituency in the House of Representatives. The situation escalated as two parallel executives of the ward exchanged words over Abiante's alleged anti-party activities.

According to The PUNCH reports, The faction led by Dike Bara, the chairman of the caretaker committee, and Dokubo Jackson, the ward secretary, claimed to have suspended Abiante after accusing him of creating factions within the party and engaging in unauthorized publicity of internal disputes. They cited Section 58(1j) of the party's constitution as grounds for his suspension. However, another faction led by Owuokagakemi Lawrence and Stephen Jumbo denounced Abiante's suspension, branding it as unlawful. They asserted that Bara and Jackson were not even registered members of the party, let alone officials, casting doubt on the validity of their actions.

The rift within the PDP in Rivers State has widened since Governor Siminalayi Fubara's fallout with his predecessor and political godfather, Nyesom Wike, further exacerbating the situation. The fallout has led to factionalism and power struggles within the party ranks, as evidenced by the conflicting actions of the ward executives. Despite the discord, party leaders urged calm among Abiante's supporters and emphasized the importance of unity in supporting Governor Fubara's agenda for the state.
