The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights says it is unhappy about the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s performance so far.

The CDHR stated this on Wednesday during a press briefing by its National President, Debo Adeniran, in Lagos.

Adeniran said: “We as activists are not happy with the President’s performance so far. During his campaign, we believed so much in him going by his antecedents as one of those that spearheaded the PRONACO in those days.

“We thought his reign would bring succor and relief to the people especially as we missed that golden opportunity during the June 12 election, but the reverse is the case right now.

“We would like to call on the President to explore the possibility of reaching out to more professionals even outside his cabinet so that his policies and programmes can have a more beneficial effect on the populace”.

A former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has recommended capital punishment for economic saboteurs attempting to frustrate the Dangote Refinery and push Nigerians into further hardship.

He made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the maiden Prof Emeka Umerah’s public lecture, with the theme, ‘Nigeria Yesterday, Today and a Prosperous Future’.

Oshiomhole representing Edo North also said that the Senate is seeking to review the contentions in Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).Daily Trust reports that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has expressed frustration and difficulties being experienced by the Dangote Refinery, one of Africa’s largest oil plants, in securing local crude oil in the country. With all the funfair and celebration of Dangote Refinery that, for once, we now have a Nigerian who has initiated and built one of the world’s biggest refineries, Nigeria’s crude oil is still being exported while Dangote is denied some allocations.

“They prefer to import it to Europe and leave Dangote to import its crude from America into Nigeria. Those guys deserve to be hanged. If we don’t hang them, they will hang all of us. What it takes to hang them will require a president with extraordinary courage,” Oshiomhole said.

The Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) has made an urgent call to action for the oil and gas sector to address dwindling production levels and under-investment.

The call was made by the chairman of IPPG, Abdulrazaq Isa, in his industry keynote address at the 2024 NOG Energy Week in Abuja.

Isa decried the situation where despite having over 37 billion barrels of proven crude oil reserves and significant gas reserves, Nigeria’s daily production has dropped to approximately 1.3 million barrels of oil per day and 8.5 bcf of gas, adding that it was way below the nation’s capacity and by all globally acceptable standards.

“This reserve to production ratio is extremely low and a clear indicator that the industry is in a dire situation posing a risk to the implementation national budget and domestic refining capacity,” Isa stated.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on Friday, announced the suspension of 10 private jet operators over failure to commence recertification process.

In a statement posted on the official X handle (formerly Twitter) of the NCAA, @Nigeriacaa, signed by the director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the regulatory agency stated that the Authority had directed all holders of Permit for Non-commercial Flights (PNCF) to undergo re-evaluation which should have been concluded by April 19, 2024.

According to Achimugu, the suspension of the operators was in line with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 Part 18.3.4 which forbids holders of PNCF from using their aircraft for carriage of passengers, cargo or mail for hire or reward, which is commercial operation or charter service.

NCAA said: “As a result of flagrant disregard of this rule, the NCAA had earlier directed all holders of PNCF to undergo re-evaluation which should have been concluded by the 19th of April 2024. To this end, the NCAA has suspended the permit for non-commercial flights of Azikel Dredging Nigeria Ltd; Bli-Aviation Safety Services; Ferry Aviation Developments Ltd; Matrix Energy Ltd; Marrietta Management Services Ltd; Worldwide Skypaths Services; Mattini Airline Services Ltd, Aero Lead Ltd; Sky Bird Air Ltd and Ezuma Jets Ltd.”
