Manchester United in contract talks with veteran duo as they are set to become free agents

Manchester United are engaged in discussions with veteran players Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton about potential contract extensions, according to Manchester World.

Both players are officially out of contract as of Monday, with negotiations ongoing to secure their futures at Old Trafford.

Evans, 36, and Heaton, 38, were indicated as potential re-signings when United released their retained list earlier this month.

The likelihood of their new contracts depended on the clarity of the managerial situation, which has now been resolved with Erik ten Hag's continuation as manager.

Evans rejoined United last year after being released by Leicester City, initially to maintain his fitness.

However, he quickly became a valuable squad member, making 30 appearances, including key starts against Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

The Northern Ireland international recently stated it "wouldn’t be a difficult conversation" if United wanted him to stay for another year.

For Heaton, the decision is more complex

The goalkeeper has had limited playing time, featuring only three times in three years since his return to United.

Heaton, who is not ready to retire, may seek more regular playing opportunities, which he could potentially find elsewhere.

Last year, newly promoted Luton Town expressed interest in signing him, but ten Hag was reluctant to let him go due to the transition period with new goalkeepers at the club.
