Rivers: Should We Be Discussing About Wike Or The Issues Facing Nigerians - Ikenga Ugochinyere

opera.com 3 days ago

Ikenga Ugochinyere, spokesman for the G-60 opposition lawmakers, has criticized Minister Wike's continued interference in Rivers State politics, stating that it threatens democracy and security in the state. Despite being appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike has remained embroiled in a feud with Governor Fubara, his successor in Rivers State.

Ugochinyere argued that Wike's attempts to exert control over the Rivers State House of Assembly, including attempting to declare seats vacant, are driven by personal interests rather than the welfare of the people. He urged boldness in telling Wike that his actions are wrong and that the focus should be on addressing the pressing issues facing the state, rather than perpetuating a political crisis.

In his words;

"The citizens are so hungry and angry, The conversation we should be having is it that one man because he supported somebody in office and the person is not doing all that he wants and then he defines democracy to be government of him alone, so therefore there should be insecurity and crisis, is that what we should be discussing?

We shouldn't be discussing that conversation and people should be bold to tell him(Wike) that he's wrong. The country is at the moment where there's so much pressure. Look at what's happening in Kenya, you ignite political crisis in a country that is like this, this is not the conversation we should be having. We should be having a conversation on how to put food on the table , on how to provide security, not on a quest by an individual to being down an entire state"
