Senator Otieno Kajwang' pleaded with the Senate to postpone recess until the issues raised by Gen Z are addressed. He demanded that President William Ruto apologise to the state after he labelled Gen Z members as saboteurs and criminals post the historic protest.Additionally, Kajwang' told the Senate that if they went on break, they would return and find the country in another bigger mess.

Homa Bay county senator Moses Otieno Kajwang' has emotionally implored the Senate to address concerns raised by Gen Z activists before adjourning for recess. Senator Otieno Kajwang' interrogating the county executive of Isiolo following the Auditor General's report.

Kajwang', deeply affected by the tragic loss of at least 23 demonstrators to police brutality during anti-finance bill protests, insisted that the Senate delay recess until addressing the critical issues that have heightened societal tensions and until an apology is issued by the President to the nation.

"We cannot run away from our constitutional mandates when we have our people lying in morgues, hospitals, and others in detention centres. We need to know the total number of people killed while exercising their constitutional rights, those who sustained injuries, and those held incommunicado by the police and paramilitary forces in this Republic," he said.

Furthermore, the senator emphasises that the Senate cannot recess while crucial matters remain unresolved, pointing out the severe injuries sustained by protesters amidst actions like the damaging of parliamentary infrastructure.

Kajwang' also criticised President William Ruto for labelling Gen Z members as saboteurs and criminals in response to the significant protests that occurred on Tuesday, June 25.

"We cannot go on recess until we call the president to come here as the chair of the national security committee and tell us the actions they are taking to ensure that the cost of living is managed and the flagrant abuse of human rights and constitutional rights is stopped.

If we went on recess until that date in July, all these things are going to pass and by the time we come back, it will be water under the bridge," he went on.
