Former President Olusegun Obasanjo visited South-East Governors on Tuesday to show solidarity and discuss pressing issues, including the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The governors agreed to meet President Bola Tinubu to advocate for Kanu’s release.

Following a seven-hour meeting, the governors announced the formation of a burial committee for the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former Minister of Science and Technology. This committee will be chaired by former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, expressed condolences to the family of Dr. Onu and the entire South-East region. He mentioned that the forum welcomed a delegation including Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.

The forum reviewed the South-East security and economic summit report from September 28, 2023, and committed to implementing the recommendations concerning regional security and economic integration. Additionally, they resolved to discuss pressing regional issues with President Tinubu and work with the Federal Government to secure Kanu's release.

The Ogbonnaya Onu burial committee also includes former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amechi, who will serve as the committee's Secretary, along with other leaders from Igbo-speaking states.
