Dr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, known as Zik, is the Executive Director of the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), has highlighted the obstacles posed by non-democratic institutions in achieving democratic outcomes. He stresses the importance of overhauling key elements of Nigeria's governance structure, including the constitution, electoral system, legislature, and local governments.

Zikirullahi emphasizes the need for enhanced representation, participation, and accountability in these institutions to strengthen the country's democratic foundations.

Moreover, Zikirullahi underscores the critical role of the rule of law in sustaining democracy. He advocates for measures to ensure civilian oversight of the military and to preserve the independence of the judiciary.

By safeguarding these fundamental principles, Zikirullahi believes that Nigeria can advance towards a more robust and inclusive democratic system that reflects the aspirations of its people.

According to Vanguard, Zikirullahi said, "Non-democratic institutions hinder the achievement of democratic results. In a fledgling democracy like Nigeria, it is crucial to revamp the constitution, electoral system, and important political bodies like the legislature and local governments to guarantee representation, participation, and accountability. The rule of law plays a vital role in democracy, serving as the foundation that must be safeguarded through measures such as establishing civilian oversight of the military and preserving the judiciary’s independence."
