According to a report by PM News on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Keanu Vella, a registered sex offender, has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for rape, false imprisonment, and breaching court-ordered notification requirements.

The sentencing took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where Vella, 30, of Maldon Walk, Woodford Green, faced multiple charges.

Detective Constable Jessica Stephens from the Met’s East Area Public Protection Unit emphasized Vella's danger to women, stating, "He has demonstrated an inability to comply with court-ordered notifications, jeopardizing public safety. It is crucial that victims of sex offenses come forward so we can support them and pursue justice."

Vella received concurrent sentences of 40 weeks for failing to comply with notification requirements, four years for false imprisonment, and 12 years and nine months for rape, with an extended license period of 18 years and nine months.

The Met Police reported that Vella failed to notify authorities of his change of address to Woodford Green and subsequently committed further crimes. In May 2023, he arranged for a woman offering escort services to visit his home. Upon her arrival, he held her against her will at knifepoint and raped her. Police were alerted by a passer-by, and Vella was arrested at the scene.

PC Emma Porter, the victim’s Sexual Offense Liaison Officer, praised the victim for her strength throughout the court proceedings. "Now that Vella is incarcerated, I hope she can move forward with her life," Porter said, emphasizing the importance of supporting victims of such abhorrent crimes.
