During an interview with Arise Television, Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, revealed that despite nearing completion of documents for a new minimum wage, the federal government's working committee advised them to proceed slowly with the process. Osifo explained that after the committee's inaugural meeting and subsequent division into subcommittees across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones to gather public opinions, discussions began on consolidating these views into a comprehensive document. However, Osifo expressed surprise when government representatives on the committee suggested a slower approach, contrary to the initial timeline aimed at concluding discussions before May Day.

Osifo detailed the sequence of events following the committee's formation, highlighting the efforts made to collect views from across the country and collate them into a workable document. Despite the progress made, Osifo noted the divergence in opinion within the committee, with government representatives advocating for a more deliberate approach to the minimum wage discussions. This revelation underscores the differing perspectives and approaches taken by stakeholders involved in the minimum wage negotiations, raising questions about the pace and direction of future deliberations.
