Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir's endorsement of Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in the 2027 general election has sent ripples through the political landscape of Kenya. During a recent ODM party meeting on Sunday, Nassir, a member of ODM, made it clear that Odinga's candidacy is non-negotiable.

In a passionate address, the first-time Governor emphasized Odinga's unparalleled political experience, positioning him as the most suitable candidate to lead Kenya.

"We are not asking, we are not requesting or pleading, we the people of Kenya are commanding you to vie for the presidency in 2027. You must be on the ballot in 2027," he declared at the event.

Nassir made a point of praising Odinga's selflessness and urged him to vie for the presidency for the sixth time, emphasizing the importance of addressing the needs of Kenyans and countering the influence of President William Ruto.

He went on to underscore that, as part of Azimio, they have not identified anyone else as suitable for the job apart from Raila Odinga.

"We have not seen anyone who has been able to put aside his own ambitions and put forward the needs of Kenyans. If there is someone who should be prayed for, it is Odinga," Nassir asserted.

This endorsement comes amidst purported uncertainty within the Azimio la Umoja coalition regarding its flagbearer. While Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been vocal about his candidacy, Odinga has maintained silence on the 2027 race.

Abdulswamad's resolute statement suggests that the former Vice President will not be considered, further solidifying Odinga's position as the favored candidate.

Nassir's endorsement has not only confirmed Odinga's standing within the coalition but has also sparked conversations and speculations across the political spectrum.

With the 2027 general election looming, this endorsement adds a new layer of anticipation and expectation to the unfolding political landscape in Kenya.
