AFCON 2023 $4 Million Prize Money: Super Eagles And NFF Can't Agree on How to Split The Money

The Super Eagles' players and the Nigeria Football Federation's administration are still at odds over how to divide the $4 million in prize money that the Confederation of African Football awarded them for making it to the 2023 AFCON championship game.

The NFF is appealing with the players to take 25% of the prize money, or one million dollars, while the players have wanted 30% of the money, or $1.2 million.

A senior official stated, "The players and the NFF have not yet reached an agreement on how the prize money should be shared."

"The error was that there was no agreement regarding this prior to the tournament, but the boys received thirty percent of the prize money that CAF paid to the NFF for finishing third at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt."

Last month, CAF gave the NFF the AFCON prize money. As previously reported, a few players publicly accused captain Ahmed Musa of not doing enough to guarantee they receive their due compensation.

It is important to distinguish between this most recent pay dispute and the 12 billion naira that President Bola Tinubu kindly allowed in January to settle unpaid bonuses and allowances that went back to 2021.
