Ugezu Ugezu, a veteran Nollywood actor and producer has spoken out about his concern at the rising death toll in Nigeria's film industry.

Fans are worried that Nollywood is in crisis mode due to the deaths of over five actors in the first quarter of 2024 (including Mr. Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Sisi Quadri, Adejumoke Aderounmu, and the most recent Junior Pope), according to DAILY POST.

As many have implied, it is a catastrophe in Nollywood. Ugezu responded on Instagram by saying that people die every week in other occupations as well.

The reason why the passing of famous actors and actresses gets so much media coverage, he said. Death tolls have been rising, he stressed, because the healthcare system has been purposefully dismantled.

Ugezu wrote, "If only you knew how many bankers who kpai every week…if only you knew how many police officers who kpai every month…if only you knew how many pastors/priests who kpai every month…if only we have a clear data on citizens that kpai monthly, we may settle down and understand the systematic destruction of the health sector.

"Public figures are constantly in the spotlight and their actions often gain widespread attention. It is now necessary to eliminate the influence of spiritual beliefs from a system that is clearly failing. This issue extends beyond just the entertainment industry in Nigeria, as some may suggest."
