"Obaseki's Disregard for PDP Leaders Led to My Exit" - Charles Idahosa

A former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, Charles Idahosa, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Idahosa's decision to switch parties was prompted by Governor Godwin Obaseki's disregard for leaders in the PDP, who had supported his re-election bid in 2020.

Speaking in Benin on Tuesday reported by daily post, Idahosa revealed that he played a crucial role in Obaseki's victory in the 2020 governorship election, but was disappointed by the governor's subsequent treatment of party leaders. Idahosa claimed that Obaseki had failed to show appreciation for the support he received from the PDP, leading to his frustration and eventual defection to the APC.

Idahosa's defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP in Edo State, as he was a prominent figure in the party and had served as Commissioner for Information during Obaseki's first term. His departure from the PDP is likely to be followed by other defections, as several party leaders are said to be dissatisfied with Obaseki's leadership style.

In a statement, Idahosa accused Obaseki of neglecting the needs of the people and failing to develop the state, despite promises made during his re-election campaign. He also challenged the governor to name the individuals who had allegedly requested financial favors from him, as Obaseki had claimed.

Idahosa's defection to the APC is expected to strengthen the opposition party's chances in the state, ahead of the 2024 general elections. The development is seen as a significant setback for the PDP, which had hoped to retain control of the state in the upcoming polls.
