PUNCH reports that officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) were injured on Friday after a violent encounter with suspected herdsmen on the Akure-Ado Expressway.

The incident reportedly unfolded after Amotekun apprehended approximately 120 cows found destroying farmlands in Osi and Igboba communities within the state's North Local Government Area. While transporting the cattle back to headquarters in Akure, the Amotekun patrol was ambushed by the herdsmen near the Sango area.

"As they were taking the cows back," recounted a source, "the herders emerged with dangerous weapons and attacked the officers to stop them from removing the cows."

A viral video circulating online reportedly shows Amotekun personnel firing warning shots into the air to deter their attackers. The injured officers were swiftly transported away in an Amotekun vehicle.

Jimoh Adeniken, Public Relations Officer for the Ondo Amotekun, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is currently underway.

This attack follows a history of tensions in the region concerning the movement of cattle and the protection of farmland. The extent of the officers' injuries and the full details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
