Former Edo State House of Assembly aspirant in Etsako East Local Government, Ilugbekhai Inwomoh, has urged people of Edo State to vote Dr Asue Ighodalo, who he described as another Obafemi Awolowo in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

Ilugbehai, who is a member of The Advisory Council (New Media) in the PDP Campaign Council, described Ighodalo as a modern Awolowo, who will project public interest above personal aggrandizement.

He said: “When Awolowo was alive, he lived and dreamed of people’s welfare and development. The western region was a pacesetter under him. Just as Edo is currently a pacesetter in Nigeria in terms of development, security and highest salary for civil servants under Governor Godwin Obaseki in PDP administration when other opposition states and the federal government are still struggling to pay what Edo government is paying with ease.” llugbehai maintained that Awolowo introduced the first television in Africa at a time when some European countries were yet to have Television.

The secret of Awolowo’s effective leadership was his exposure and knowledge. That is why we need an exposed candidate like Dr. Asue Ighodalo who is well educated and connected. A vote for PDP is a vote for a rebranded Edo State. If our dreams of becoming a pace-setter to a new Nigeria then we need best hands for the job Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie are the two men that knows the way.”

Govt alone can’t solve housing issue in Lagos — Sanwo-Olu

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, yesterday, declared that the state government alone cannot address the housing deficit but promised to bridge the deficit in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said this during the commissioning of Lagos Building Investment Company and the Rising Lagos Apartment in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said: “I must commend and congratulate once again the leadership of LBIC and our Public Private Partner, WGC for their dedication, for their innovative mind and their promotion of excellence in bringing these projects to fruition for our citizens.

“Let me reiterate that the government alone cannot solve these housing challenges in Lagos. We will keep exploring innovative solutions. We will keep forming real, genuine partnerships.

We will keep investing in sustainable development to ensure that as much as possible, as humanly possible, every Lagos resident that deserves has access to a decent and affordable housing need.

“I want to encourage and urge the private sector and all other stakeholders in real estate to continue to seize the abandoned opportunities that abound in our states and our city and to extend a hand of partnership with administration.

Together, we believe that we can provide much-needed housing needs that will indeed take a greater Lagos conversation, take it to a reality.”

Earlier, Managing Director, LBIC, Olusola Faleye, described the scheme as a significant milestone for the state government and residents.

Team work would tackle insecurity, other problems, Ndigbo tell S-East govs

NDIGBO have continued to lament the lingering insecurity in the South- East region and tasked the governors in the zone to rise to their responsibilities by coming together to tackle the problem.

The lingering insecurity in the region has destroyed many families and crippled the economy of the region.

The people of the region think it is time for their governors to work as a team to salvage the region as their efforts are not helping.

Their counterparts in the South- West region are collaborating; they have a regional security outfit that is working hard to secure their people. Recently, it was reported that they have embarked on joint agriculture projects for mass production of food items and crops to make life reasonably better for their people.

The Northern governors are collaborating to fight insurgency and other crimes. Last week, they held a security summit in Katsina to rub minds on how to tackle crimes in the region.

What are the South-East governors doing? Are they cursed not to work together or is it an issue of ego? Businesses are collapsing; traditional ceremonies meant to be held in Igbo land are still done outside the region due to insecurity. Some Igbo investors have refused to take their businesses to the region. Sadly, this is affecting the internally generated revenue base of their states, and they resort to taxing their already impoverished citizens to death. Time is now for them to bury their differences and ego, and work as a team for the good of the people of the region.

I never lobbied to extend my tenure — IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has debunked reports alleging that he has been lobbying the National Assembly to tamper with the Nigeria Police Act 2020 to elongate his tenure and year of service of personnel in the force.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the IGP’s denial in a statement, saying it is vital to clarify unequivocally that the bill was originally introduced during the 8th Assembly but did not progress beyond the initial stages before the Assembly’s dissolution. It is standard legislative practice to review and update laws to align with current national realities.

The proposed amendment seeks to extend the years of service for police officers from 35 to 40 years, and the age limit from 60 to 65 years.

Adejobi said: “The Nigeria Police Force is deeply perturbed by the dissemination of false information across various media platforms, notably the distorted publication by an online media, regarding the proposed amendment to the Nigeria Police Act 2020.

The misleading publications alleged that IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun personally initiated this bill to prolong his tenure as the 22nd indigenous Inspector General of Police, and has allegedly invested significantly in lobbying lawmakers to facilitate its passage.’

Egbetokun decried a situation where certain media outlets and their sponsors had chosen to propagate baseless accusations, ignorantly disregarding the fact that any modification to existing legislation was designed to enhance its effectiveness and relevance.

The statement read: “To understand the true motivations behind this initiative, one needs only look at the Inspector General of Police steadfast commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force.

“His advocacy for this bill stems from a genuine belief in its potential to improve the conditions of service for police officers and thereby bolster security nationwide, rather than seeking personal gain. It comes from the place of duty rather than benefit.“

Furthermore, it is important to note that the tenure of an Inspector General of Police is already prescribed as four years, with the President being the sole authority empowered to remove an IGP before the completion of his tenure.
