In a post on his official Facebook page, Reverend Father John Chinenye Oluoma, a Catholic priest in Abuja, addressed the notion of what it means to be a 'burning Christian.'

Using the examples of renowned footballers Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Kaka, he highlighted how their lives and virtues embody true Christian values.

Reflecting on a friend's post that questioned, "Imagine if CR7 and Leo Messi were firebrand Christians," Father Oluoma emphasized that these athletes already exemplify key Christian virtues such as humility, self-control, and charity. He argued that the perception of what constitutes a 'burning Christian' is often skewed by superficial standards.

Ronaldo, a devout Catholic, is known for his unparalleled work ethic, living with one woman, having no tattoos, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and steering clear of scandals. His numerous charitable donations further showcase his commitment to Christian values. "Don't these qualities suffice to call him a 'burning Christian'?" asked Father Oluoma.

Similarly, Lionel Messi, also a Catholic, exhibits admirable qualities that align with Christian teachings. Despite this, Father Oluoma noted that some Christians might not consider Ronaldo or Messi 'born again' due to their lack of overt religious expressions like speaking in tongues or public preaching.

Father Oluoma's reflections were inspired by a Muslim's admiration for Jurgen Klopp, who respected his players' religious practices during Ramadan. The Muslim's wish for Klopp to be Muslim prompted Father Oluoma to question why religious groups often overlook virtuous individuals within their own faith while desiring to convert those from other faiths.

Father Oluoma concluded that Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka, and others like them are indeed 'burning Christians' by living out their faith through actions and virtues." They may not be from your preferred denomination or exhibit some loud pieties of your preference, but they are still 'burning Christians'. Let's not get it twisted," he affirmed.
