"It Will be the Saddest Day for Kenyans" Expert Warns on Raila Accepting Offer for African Union Job

Political analyst Josphat Kamanya has predicted severe implications for both the opposition and the nation if Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga accepts the offer to compete for President of the African Union (AU) Commission. According to high-level sources, President William Ruto is supporting Raila in his bid for the role and has promised the government's support if he accepts.

In an interview with TV 47 on Saturday evening, Kamanya argued that while Raila's appointment would be a watershed moment in his career and a success for Kenya internationally, it would also weaken the opposition, allowing the government to carry out its planned agenda.

"Raila is the official leader of the opposition and also the leader of the oldest, strongest, and largest political party ODM and which is the biggest party in the Azimio fraternity." "If the attempts by Kenya Kwanza to have Raila take up the AU job go through, it will be good for Kenya Kwanza, but that will be the saddest day for Kenyans because the opposition will fully be compromised."

"If he leaves, who will serve as the government's opposition watchdog?" What happens if the ODM party decides to endorse a presidential candidate in 2027, and who will it be? But, rather than taking the AU position, I believe Raila should focus on rejuvenating his party and teaching future MPs."
