Arsenal have made a big splash in the transfer market by securing the services of Barcelona and Spain forward Mariona Caldentey.

According to a report by The Sun News, the 28-year-old has signed a deal with the Gunners after a successful spell at Barcelona, where she won numerous domestic and international titles.

Caldentey is a proven winner, having lifted six Liga F titles, three Champions Leagues, and six Spanish Cups during her time at Barcelona.

She has been a key player for the Catalan side, making over 300 appearances and scoring 114 goals in the process.

Her goal-scoring prowess has made her one of Barcelona's all-time top scorers.

The Spanish forward was also part of the Spain team that won the World Cup last year, beating England in the final to claim their first major women's title.

“I think what Arsenal are doing as a club is amazing – on and off the pitch,” Caldentay said.

“I love the way we want to play as a team and I think there’s a strong mentality building here.

“It’s been incredible to see what the club has done away from the pitch, with supporters following the team everywhere and lots of records being broken.

I can’t wait to get started and help the team win trophies and entertain our supporters.”

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall said: “Mariona is a world-class forward and we are delighted to bring her to Arsenal.

“She’s a winner with proven experience of excelling on the biggest stage, which is exactly where we aim to be at this club.”

Caldentey has also been influential for the Spanish national team, scoring 26 goals in 72 matches and helping them to win the 2023-24 Nations League.

Arsenal's acquisition of Caldentey comes at a time when they are looking to strengthen their squad.

The Gunners confirmed earlier in May that Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema will be leaving the club after not being offered a new contract.

This has paved the way for rival club Manchester City to make a move for the prolific striker.

In addition to Caldentey, Arsenal have also been linked with other players, including Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar and England midfielder Fran Kirby.

The Gunners are clearly looking to bolster their squad in order to compete for major honors next season.
