The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, accepted the apology of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, over his failure to appear before the House when he was summoned previously.

Emefiele apologized to the MPs for not coming before the House ad hoc committee when it was called to discuss the CBN's stance on the redesign of the naira.

The CBN governor's apology was accepted, according to the committee's head Alhassan Ado-Doguwa.

The CBN governor also assured the lawmakers that banks would continue to accept old naira notes, however he did not specify for how long the banks would take the notes that had already expired.

Emefiele claimed that the CBN had just taken advantage of the chance to increase the economy's cashless nature and that the policy should have been implemented years ago. Nigerians would soon see the advantages of the strategy, in his opinion.

Ado-Doguwa requested a closed-door executive session with the committee following the over-an-hour-long hearing.

Later, as plenary was taking place, the Majority Leader and members entered the room.

The House laid the committee report, gave it consideration, and then approved it.
