When I became governor of Edo, 30,000 Edo youths were in Libya waiting to cross to Europe- Obaseki.
Former governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, reflected on the dire situation faced by his people upon assuming office seven years ago. In an interview with Vanguard News, Obaseki revealed that he was informed of the alarming fact that tens of thousands of Edo youths were stranded in Libya, awaiting illegal migration to Europe.
This revelation prompted Obaseki to take action, particularly in addressing the state's educational system. He initiated the EdoBest program, which has since been adopted by several other states. Obaseki emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "The International Organization of Migration (IOM) informed us that 30,000 Edo boys and girls were stranded in Libya, hoping to cross to Europe. If 30,000 youths were waiting, one can only imagine the toll of those who may have perished on the journey. If this wasn't alarming enough, then what else could be?"
