Rivers Crisis: Fubara Moves To Avert Impeachment

According to report from The Nation. A fresh court order has restrained the Chief Judge and Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly from engaging with 27 lawmakers led by Martins Amaewhule. According to The Nation, Justice D. Jumbo Stephens of the High Court of Rivers State granted an ex-parte order for a temporary injunction on July 8.

The suit, filed by Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, and the Attorney-General, lists Amaewhule, 26 other lawmakers, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as defendants. The court ordered an interim injunction restraining the Clerk and Chief Judge from dealing with the 27 lawmakers as members of the House of Assembly, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

The court directed the parties to maintain the status quo ante litem as of July 5, 2024, and ordered substituted service of processes on the defendants by posting them at the gate of the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters. The matter was adjourned until July 15 for the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction. This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing legal battle in Rivers State.
