In a recent interview with Channels Television, Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, discussed the enduring ethnic and religious divisions within Nigerian politics.

Fayose expressed concerns about how various ethnic groups perceive political leadership.

He went on highlighting widespread mistrust and suspicion that hinder national unity and development.

Fayose's comments coincide with Nigeria facing various challenges, including economic instability, insecurity, and social unrest.

During his interview, Fayose advocated for enhanced national unity and urged political leaders to transcend ethnic and religious divides.

In Fayose's words in a video (49:21), he said, "When an Hausa man is in power, they'll say this is against the North. They'll say they're targeting Muslims. They're targeting Fulanis. When a Yoruba man is there, they'll say this is our turn, Oduduwa will not allow this. If an Igbo man is there, they'll say you remember the Civil War, they want to carry Nigeria away."
