In a move to address the accommodation challenges faced by its personnel, the Nigerian Army has commissioned three renovated blocks of 12 flats at the 33 Artillery Brigade, Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi, according to reports from DAILY POST.

The commissioning ceremony, which took place over the weekend, was presided over by the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, and Commander, Operation Safe Haven, Major General A.E. Abubakar, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T.A. Lagbaja.

In his remarks, Major General Abubakar affirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to the welfare of its troops and their families, stating that the renovation project was a testament to the COAS's "command philosophy of sound administration and the welfare of troops."

"One of the pillars of the COAS Command Philosophy was sound administration and the welfare of troops and their families. To this end, the remodelling and renovation were necessary to provide befitting accommodation for soldiers along with their families to keep the morale of the troops high," Abubakar said.

The newly renovated accommodation, which will house 36 families of corporal and lower-rank soldiers, is expected to go a long way in addressing the accommodation deficit within the Shadawanka Barracks.

Abubakar, who was represented by the Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General E. Egbe, urged the beneficiaries to take proper care of the facilities and report any deliberate mismanagement or damage to the appropriate authorities for sanctions.

In a vote of thanks, one of the recipients, SSgt. Adewale Okewo, expressed gratitude for the gesture and promised to maintain the structures accordingly.
