President William Ruto has responded to mounting pressure, particularly from Gen Z demonstrators, calling for reforms within his administration by announcing significant changes in his government structure. Following intense discussions with unsettled Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto hinted at a forthcoming overhaul that includes the creation of several new ministries aimed at streamlining operations and cutting down on public expenditure.

Among the proposed changes are the establishment of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land, Housing, Public Works, and Roads. These moves are part of a broader strategy to merge existing ministries and dissolve certain state corporations, ultimately reducing the current number of ministries from 22 to 15.

The decision to reorganize comes in the wake of widespread public dissatisfaction with corruption and inefficiencies allegedly plaguing various government sectors. President Ruto, in response to demands for accountability and transparency from the younger generation, has also pledged austerity measures, starting with his own office, to curb unnecessary spending and align governmental priorities with the country's future needs.

The restructuring efforts are seen as a proactive step towards addressing the concerns raised by demonstrators, who have called for the removal of corrupt officials, reforms in parliamentary leadership, and audits of extravagant lifestyles among government officials. Ruto's administration aims to navigate these challenges while focusing on economic stability and efficient governance moving forward.
