The Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice President, Jamiu Abiola, has said that his late father, MKO Abiola, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are joined by destiny as far as democracy in Nigeria is concerned because of the roles they both played in the democratic processes in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview with Vanguard on Sunday, Jamiu Abiola said that while his father played a role in the return of democracy in Nigeria, President Tinubu is now playing the role of sustaining democracy.

Speaking about the calls for secession in Nigeria, he said that although the calls for secession have been there in Nigeria for a long time, he believes that God made Nigeria one country for a purpose.

He said, "That is why whenever we think that we have reached the brink and are about to disintegrate, like in 1993 and 2023, a miracle that brings us back on track happens.

As far as democracy goes in Nigeria, my father and President Tinubu are joined by destiny, because while the former played the role of bringing about the return of democracy, the latter now plays the role of ensuring that democracy works."

Jamiu Abiola said that this is the first time he is not feeling moody when June 12 is around the corner.

He said that in the past, there was always a voice telling him that the fight for democracy was not worth the lives of his parents, since democratic governance at the state and federal levels was not meeting the expectations of the citizens.

He said that voice is silenced now by the giant strides of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
