A Foreign Diplomat Wondered What To Make Of A Country Where Someone Like Wike Thrives– Pat Utomi

opera.com 2 days ago

In a recent statement on his official X account, Professor Pat Utomi, a prominent political economist and former presidential aspirant, shared his critical views on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of FCT and former Governor of Rivers State. Utomi's remarks come amidst ongoing conflicts between Wike and his successor, Governor Fubara, as well as recent clashes with Senator Shehu Sani and an FCT Senator.

While drawing on a biblical passage to emphasize his point, Professor Utomi quoted Amos 2:16: "And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day." He questioned whether Wike fits this description, suggesting that Wike's behavior is causing significant concern even among foreign diplomats, who are puzzled by his continued prominence in Nigerian politics.

Utomi highlighted what he perceives as Wike's contemptuous treatment of people, social order, and governance, criticizing the incivility that he believes characterizes Wike's approach. He likened Wike's conduct to that which would provoke the wrath of Amos, the herdsman of Tekoa, who prophesied during the time of King Uzziah. The conflicts involving Nyesom Wike have garnered widespread attention, particularly his disputes with Governor Fubara and recent altercations with Senator Shehu Sani and an FCT Senator.

Hear him: "Reflecting on Amos. And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day (2:16) I wonder if Nyesom Wike is of this kindred. A foreign diplomat wondered what to make of a country where someone of Wike’s pedigree ’thrives’. The contempt with which he and his co-travelers treat people, social order and governance with incivility as his anchor beggars belief and would get the herdsman of Tekoa in the time of King Uzziah breathing fire into the house of pretend leaders."
