Gen Z have massively reacted after President William Ruto vowed to take a swift and decisive action against those responsible for setting fire to Parliament Buildings during the Tuesday protests. The protests were covered on a global scale with CNN News taking a centre stage of airing the demos live alongside other mainstream media houses.

Kenyans on different social media platforms have reacted by posing a question to President Ruto: “Bado unatutisha?” which simple translates to “are you still threatening us?” The Parliament was set on fire by members of Generation Z (Gen Z) as a sign of dissatisfaction by their leaders, especially Members of Parliament who voted “Yes” to the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Speaking to African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) bishops, Ruto condemned the arsonists as "criminals" who hijacked a peaceful protest against the finance bill. According to reports by the Star Kenya, Mr. Ruto stressed the need to distinguish between legitimate protests and criminal acts, emphasizing that destroying public property is unacceptable and those responsible will be pursued.

Ruto acknowledged the youths' right to protest and noted their peaceful conduct, but highlighted that criminal activities must be addressed separately. He questioned the efficacy of property destruction in addressing the issues raised by protesters.

In response to the unrest, President Ruto announced a national dialogue to tackle critical issues such as employment, tax policy, national debt, representation, accountability, and anti-corruption measures. However, his speech on terming the Parliament arsonists as “criminals” have attracted a lot of attention from many Kenyans especially from Gen Z.
