Renowned Nigerian lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi recently highlighted the disparity between law and justice in Nigeria, stating, "There are volumes of laws to be found in Nigeria, but you will not find justice in our courts."

This statement, shared on social media, underscores a critical view of the Nigerian judicial system's effectiveness in delivering justice despite its extensive legal framework.

Farotimi, known for his advocacy for systemic reform and his recent book "Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System," which led to his arrest and subsequent release, has long criticized the judicial system for failing to uphold true justice.

His arrest for defamation by influential figures only highlights the challenges activists face in Nigeria's legal environment.

This critique comes at a time when Nigeria's judiciary is under scrutiny.

Despite having a constitution and various legal systems including English, Common, Customary, and Sharia Law, the practical delivery of justice often falls short. Public trust in the judiciary is waning, with instances of corruption and judicial impunity eroding the system's credibility.
