Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, has said that the administration of President Bola Tinubu will not blame his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari for the challenges it encountered after taking over

Shettima speaking during a roundtable, organised by the 21st Century Chronicle, said this was the most difficult time to occupy political leadership in Nigeria due to the challenges facing the country.

He said that President Tinubu decided to take a bitter pill for the country instead of settling for a placebo.

Kenya names new defence chief after deadly chopper crash

Kenyan President William Ruto on Thursday named Charles Muriu Kahariri as defence chief after the death of his predecessor in a helicopter crash.

Kahariri replaces Francis Omondi Ogolla who was among 10 military officers killed when their chopper went down in a remote area of northwestern Kenya on April 18.

Kahariri had previously served as deputy to Ogolla, 62, who had been Chief of Defence Forces for a year and was about to mark 40 years of military service.


Schools, Offices Shut As Heavy Rain Returns To Desert UAE

Schools and many offices were closed across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday as heavy rains returned to the desert country just two weeks after record downpours that experts linked to climate change.

A lightning storm with high winds swept across the oil-rich monarchy overnight, with more than 50 millimetres (two inches) of rain falling before 8:00 am in some areas, the National Center of Meteorology said.

Flooding was seen in some parts of financial hub Dubai, and the city’s airport, the world’s busiest by international passenger traffic, cancelled 13 flights and diverted five, a spokesperson said.


FCT Area Councils, Stakeholders Shared N6.3Bn Allocation In March

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disbursed N6,316,621,045.37 to the six area councils and other stakeholders in the FCT as statutory allocation for March, 2024.

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant, Media to FCT Minister of State, Austine Elemue, the amount represented an increase of approximately 40 percent when compared to N3,938,092,102.92 shared in February, 2024.

According to the statement, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, who presided over the 188th Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC), expressed satisfaction over the increase.
