The All Progressives Congress has expressed conviction that President Bola Tinubu will be re-elected in 2027 despite the economic hardship and planned alliance between mega opposition parties.

The lingering economic hardship resulting from ongoing reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and floating of the naira has given rise to palpable fear that Nigerians may vote out Tinubu in 2027.

But the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the ruling party, Nze Chidi Duru, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, said the ongoing reforms had to come into play to steady the sinking ship of the economy.

Blackout As National Grid Collapses Again

The national grid collapsed again yesterday, according to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

In a public notice to its customers, the management said, “Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 3:10pm today (Saturday), affecting the power supply to our franchise areas.”

AEDC said it was working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized.

Similarly confirming the collapse, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) said the incident occurred around 3:09pm.

Its Head, Corporate Affairs, Emeka Ezeh, in a public notice, said a general system collapse was recorded at 15:09 hour of Saturday.

Evolve strategies to combat violent groups, Tinubu urges Army

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Nigerian Army to evolve new strategies that would prevent violent groups from overruning the citizens of the country.

The president gave the charge on Saturday while speaking at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Bassa Local Government Area during the grand finale of the week-long 2024 Nigeria Army Day celebration.

Tinubu, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed that he has approved the purchase of attack helicopters and other necessary equipment for soldiers to carry out their assignments more proficiently and effectively.

Your allowance will soon go up – NYSC DG assures corps members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig Gen Yushau Ahmed has assured corps members that their monthly stipends will soon be reviewed upward.

The DG, who gave the assurance on Saturday while addressing 2,762 corps members of Batch B, Stream one at Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp, Sagamu, said the monthly allowance would be increased by the time the ongoing minimum wage negotiation is over.

According to him, the corps members are too special to be forgotten by the Federal government.

“For your allowance, don’t worry, as soon as the ongoing negotiation on the minimum wage is concluded, you can be so sure that your allowance too will definitely go up.

“There is no way the government will forget you because you are really special,” the NYSC DG said.
