During the Nigeria Annual Lecture and Gold Prize Award held in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria's 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike publicly criticized former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani and senior advocate Mike Ozekhome for their outspoken views on the current administration.
Chief Ozekhome, who was the guest lecturer, drew Wike's ire for allegedly omitting acknowledgments of progress made by Nigeria in the past 25 years. Meanwhile, Shehu Sani's call for President Bola Tinubu to address hunger in Nigeria was met with skepticism by Wike, who questioned Sani's accomplishments during his tenure as a Senator.
Wike's remarks underscored a contentious atmosphere at the event, highlighting differing perspectives on Nigeria's political and social issues. Amid that, Shehu Sani, when asked to reply to what Wike said about what he did as a Senator, then, Shehu Sani, while on Channels in his words, said
"Nyesom Wike wasn't specific, he was talking in general times. So, I can't take that personally, but I would say that Wike is a beneficiary of the struggle which Nigerians have committed and dedicated their lives to".
"Next time we go to an event, since I know his formula of speaking last and closing the chapter, so everyone can go, it will never happen. He would certainly get a reply, and it was even later I learned that we are age mates".
